Engagement letters

Approve the exact letter. Clients sign it on their phones.

Start from your firm's own engagement letter, filled in from the matter. An attorney approves the exact letter before it goes out for e-signature, and the approval is recorded.

01

Your firm's own engagement letter

Use your firm's own engagement letter. We set it up for you. Each letter starts from it, with the client's names, the date, the fee and the payment schedule in place.

Anything the letter still needs, such as the scope of representation, stays marked until someone fills it in, and a letter with a blank still showing cannot be approved.

02

An attorney approves every letter

No engagement letter or fee quote is sent without an attorney's approval. The attorney sees the letter as it will be sent. The approval is recorded with the attorney's name and the time.

"You approve the exact letter, signers and amounts before anything is sent."

"Only an attorney can send a letter for signature."

03

Each signer signs on their own phone

Each signer, one spouse or both, can e-sign on their own phone. Each signer needs their own email address. The e-signature service your firm uses emails each one a link to sign, with the subject "Your engagement letter is ready for your signature".

If a client signs on paper instead, the attorney records that signature, and the signed copy stays in your firm's own files.

04

Mark the matter engaged when the letter takes effect

Your firm's letter takes effect at signing or when the first payment arrives, as set up for your firm. The matter shows where it stands: "Waiting for signatures", "Signed. Waiting for the first payment", then "Ready to mark engaged".

When the letter takes effect, mark the matter engaged. Intara never marks it for you.

Questions

Questions firms ask.

Can clients sign their will this way?

No. Intara sends only the engagement letter for e-signature. Wills and other estate planning documents are signed the way your firm signs them today.

Who sends the signing email?

The e-signature service your firm uses. It does not come from your firm's email address or from Intara.

Can we use our own letter?

Yes. We set it up for you. To change it later, ask us and we make the change.

What if a client cannot e-sign?

They can sign on paper. The attorney records the signature in Intara. Intara keeps no copy of it, so the signed copy stays in your firm's own files.

Is e-signature turned on for every firm?

Each feature is turned on per firm, once it is set up for that firm. E-signature is included in the per-firm price.
